First Aid Kits (FAK)

Aircraft operating under EU Ops must have a least one first aid kit if EU Ops if carrying under 30 passengers (Ops 1.755).  This basically covers most business jets.  There is no requirement to have the more enhanced Emergency Medical Kit is not required with aircraft carrying less than 30 passengers although operators that operate more than 60 minutes away from a suitable medical diversion may be advised to carry one.  What is required in the First Aid Kit?  It’s not actually specified under 1.755, however the Minimum Equipment List (MEL) for the aircraft I fly specifies the following are mandatory EU Ops 1 items:

Airway Equipment:  CPR pocket mask with oxygen inlet and Non latex examination gloves .

Medications:  Oxymetazoline HCI 0.05% nasal spray, Metoclopramide Tablets, Paracetamol Tablets.

Wound Equipment:  Triangular banages with safety pins, bandages, micropore tape, gauze swabs, non latex examination gloves, antiseptic towelets, burn dressing, abdominal gauze pad.

Assessment and other equipment: signal mirror, ground/air visual guide, first aid handbook.
